Why Home Education

There are many good reasons to educate your children at home. First, there has been much research done to prove that, on average, home educated children fare better than private or public school students (National Home Education Research Institute, Oregon). Secondly, home educated children are spared the evil influence of peer pressure. The myth of socialization, that children of the same age need to be together for extended periods of time with other children of the same age is exactly the opposite of the real truth. Our present peer culture is destroying children. In the workplace we work with people of all ages. What if we worked with people of all the exact same age? Is that the norm? No! Then why do we do it to children in our culture and say that is normal? The family, with people of all ages is God’s way. Thirdly, family bonds are strengthened. Parents, children, siblings all grow closer by spending more time together. The family prospers spiritually as the process of discipling one’s own child results in character growth in both the child and the parent. The family is God’s design. Anything we do to keep it together will benefit not only each family member, but our churches and our nation.

Fourthly, the best reason to teach your children at home is that it is God’s plan. Parents are assigned the role of educating, disciplining, and building character into their children. (Genesis 18:19; Proverbs 1:8; 6:20) “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4). The method is revealed in Deuteronomy 6:7, “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, (The Word of God) and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” When parents are the constant companions of their children, teaching them God’s view of life at every opportunity, then they are teaching their children God’s way. This is the way to keep the heart of your child. When we truly have the heart of our children they will do, say, and act the way we desire and the way God desires. God desires to have everyone’s heart, soul, and mind. (Matthew 22:37) When the hearts of fathers and mothers are turned to the heart of their children, then hearts of children will be turned to the heart of their parents and to the Savior. (Luke 1:17). The success of our purpose hinges on this goal. The future of our nation depends on it.
